SEAS-TU Creates Regional Experts for Globalization Society

Recently established Southeast Asian Studies Program (SEAS) at TU has enrolled students who want to pursue a degree in SEA Studies. It is an advancement to have an academic institution come up with a study program, which prepares qualified personnel to work in a fast movement region of Southeast Asia. This SEA Studies Program will provide not only personnel for the government sector, having an active foreign policy on neighboring countries, but also for non-profit and private sectors which involved in regional business.

Like other parts of the world, a culturally rich Southeast Asia has endured many forms of violence in recent years. Armed separatist movements, inter-communal conflicts, and vigilantism, to name a few, continue to afflict countries throughout the region. The main concern is to examine ways in which societies can move beyond violence.

SEAS-TU, students have choices to study selected SEA languages in order to profoundly understand the region . They are also encouraged to incorporate cross-regional and interdisciplinary perspectives to address the problems in Southeast Asia: how they have been handled, how they are being handled today, and how they can be dealt with more effectively in the future. It sounds ideal; however, the program must have a strong and dynamic curriculum development to have the program's goals attained.
